presence:
Fantasyful a made up word, that I feel can be attributed to post editing. It is something I will do to represent 'what I saw' that a camera can't. Is the art of post editing in photography distracting from 'natural' beauty....natural beauty is not enough, easier to view the enhanced, not to explore the 'real' with our own eyes?
This day was grey dull, flat, murky...not an ideal time for portraying magic to an audience. Timming, conditions have to be so succinct for this to happen naturally.
I was in Cardiff Bay for another reason, but then I was reminded of the starlings, I ventured into the wetlands, balanced across a 'non' bridge, at the risk of my equipment, venturing into an area unknown, maybe prohibited, to get as close to the starlings as possible. This is primarily what I get out of photographing nature, is attempting to convey the 'moment' or 'presence', but it is as much about the adventure, the noise, the ambience, the physical, than always the resulting out comes. We all need to re-connect to nature....but it won't always be the 'fantasyful' vision more a very real feeling of connect.
